In a recent post I mentioned that make all of our pets food. If you’re a reader you know that I go the homemade route as much as possible when it comes to our food, personal hygiene care, cleaning products, candles, party decor, crafts, ect. The way that I feed my pets is no different. We have many dogs so I make their food in bulk once a week typically. I freeze what is meant for the middle-end of the week. Keep in mind that I rarely follow recipes and even if I had one to post it would be a much larger portion than most people need so for that reason I’m simply going to share what I put into my dogs food and why.
When making food for your pet or for your family in general you need to include a few things. You need sources of protein, carbohydrates, fiber, and fat. Depending on your pets ages they will need 18-25% protein. Puppies need 25% and adult dogs need less.
My ingredients:
- Lamb
- Ground Turkey
- Baby Spinach
- Carrots
- Brown Rice
- Vegetable Oil
The meats and carbs (brown rice in my case) need to be cooked. I also cook my carrots in to soften them.
Like I said I prepare my food once a week and freeze what is needed for later dates in the week. I used to make it twice a month but we have so many pets now that it’s easier to make it once a week on a schedule. Serving size differs depending on the dogs ages and sizes. You will need to ask your vet what the recommend protein percentages and serving size is for your pet.
